Apps, contacts and files

Launch apps, reach people, and find files with Spotlight's index behind them.

Apps

Beam indexes /Applications, /Applications/Utilities, /System/Applications (and its Utilities), ~/Applications and Finder. Running apps are labelled Running · Application.

Contacts

Type two or more characters of a name. Beam shows up to 12 matches from your Contacts, cached for three minutes. The first time, a Connect Contacts item asks for permission.

Files

Type f, a space, and part of a file name. The prefix is configurable. Beam queries Spotlight across your home folder, matches the display name, sorts by last modified and shows up to 40 results.

Recents and downloads

recent, recents, recent files or recent documents lists your 10 most recent files.
downloads or download lists your 12 newest downloads, with Open, Reveal and Move to Trash.

Good to know

File search matches names, not file contents. It depends on Spotlight, so anything Spotlight does not index will not appear.
